mini cd stuck in mac book pro fix

this is a bit random for the blog but just stuck a mini cd into my mac book pro and then nothing happened so i pushed it further in with another cd, then i searched the internet and got told that was a really stupid thing to do.

i paniced for a while then turned the think off and give it a big shake and praise the lord jesus the wee disc dropped on to the floor.

the end

Hope all's grand back in the Emerald Isle!

omg thank you thank you thank you. i was having a whole panic moment before i read your post!!! *great big hug*

Anonymous said...

bless you, my child!! I was about to cry because I moronically decided that if the mini disc didn't seem to be pulled in, I should help it out by pushing it further. this was a disc that included the install software for the digital photo album that I'm giving as a gift tomorrow... so in addition to screwing up my laptop, i had screwed up the gift (can't give it without the software!!)

anyway... THANKS!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

this is actually an online hug. you really just helped me out a lot. i would be unable to show my face at the apple store after i dropped my computer last term. they would have been like "what is it now."

but you saved me. god bless you.

Anonymous said...

thank you thank you thank you... I wonder how long that would have taken me to find out if I hadn't read this :s

Anonymous said...

ok...

so i'm not the only one.. i'm normally pretty competent.. but for some reason.. i took the mac mindset of.. it should just work.. so i slid the disk in.. it made some noise.. and didn't come back out.. after finding your post a quick shake and out it came.. now only if i could find a way to get it to actually read the driver disk ;)

Anonymous said...

okay, I don't know you but thanks.
i can add two more pieces to your story
(1) I asked my brother in law what to do when you put a mini cd in your mac, he suggested checking the internet - [at this point insert your blog posting] -- (2) lastly it also works on a macbook.
Thanks!!!

Anonymous said...

simple solution...yet effective. thanks!

Anonymous said...

shucks the same thing happened to me..i'm gonna try wat u did..wish me all the best!

Anonymous said...

Exact same thing just happened to me. I will do what you did and hope it comes out. This is really stupid. It's a driver installation cd that came with the webcam I just bought.

Thanks god I found your blog.

Anonymous said...

you saved me!!!!!!! thanks a million :D

Anonymous said...

I looked on the web before I put the wee #$%@#&%$ into my mac!!! You saved me too...Great work and thanks for putting your story on the web.

Anonymous said...

"(2) lastly it also works on a macbook."

What? Gravity? No way! :)

Anonymous said...

Whoa, I just had the same problem and tried your solution. IT WORKED

Anonymous said...

Same thing happened to me today!

So I googled "mini cd stuck" and your blog came first!

I read it, and tried it.. and WHOOOOSH came the mini-CD on the floor!

THANKS.

Anonymous said...

The same thing just happend to me (google got m to this link). I was able to fish it out with a knife...
BUT the funny part was that the minidisk came with a card reader and it is only for the macs...

Erika (aka "e") said...

Just saying thanks from Chicago, Illinois, USA... googled the "stuck mini-CD" problem, got to your site, shook my macbook... problem solved - the disc came out enough to grab it!

wow...u re a god. i was about to cry 5 minutes ago thinking i ve broked my mac. I m so happy i got u re blog. Thank you 10000000 times.

Anonymous said...

OMGZ IT WORKED! they told me it would take about 1.5 hours @ 75$ an hour to fix by a tech at the store, because it was a user-caused problem. all it needed was a shake! wheeeeee

Anonymous said...

I can't believe how stupid this made me feel!

I just got a small cd stuck in my brand new macbook pro, after yelling at myself for knowing it was a bad idea, I googled this issue, and found other suggestion (ie sticking cardboard in the slot) and did not work!, I tried your "brilliant" idea, and OUT IT CAME :-D

Thanks!!!

i just put a mini cd into my mac and when i tried to find a solution i came to your blog and shook my laptop and it came out! you seemed to have set up an online help forum for us silly people! thanks!

Unknown said...

LMAO.

1. I'm mad I did everything you did. To the T. I even pushed it in with another disk.

2. I think it's funny I googled this and actually got something so perfectly suited to my stupid action.

3. I'm glad I wasn't alone in this blonde moment, and thankful your suggestion to shake the laptop worked!! I was thoughts away from paying a mac expert to retrieve the disk.... who would think the solution was so simple!

Anonymous said...

Good words.

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much >,<

Anonymous said...

And so it is....we are all idiots! I just did the same thing, then i googled help and it led me right to your page....THANKS IT WORKED!!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for this posting... another one that did the same and on finding this, a quick shake of the laptop and it came outl

Anonymous said...

There's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on!

Worked for me, too!

Anonymous said...

HA!! Just found this thread. Tried a mini cd with drivers for my new hd camcorder, and yes, it got stuck. Was all the way in and I thought I was going to have to take it to the apple store. Anyway, 3 decent shakes and it popped out. Thanks!!

Unknown said...

I just got a minicd stuck.

Thanks to that first post I had the nerve to stick more stuff in to the drive, which worked!

TIP: If shaking it doesn't work, you'll have more success by ramming it further in with a proper CD. Then, I ejected the cd and the little one popped out *just* enough for me to be able to tweezer it out.

This forum rocks

Anonymous said...

Wow, you just saved my life, thank you so much. I did the same thing, and it slid right out.

altawils said...

i just did all the shaking my laptop could take and this didnt work for me:( what should i do?

Anonymous said...

2009 and mini CDs are still getting stuck in MacBook Pros. It took quite a shake, but it did come out. Thank you!!!!!

Anonymous said...

goodness. it happened to me too and it had't cross my mind with that shake. thanks for that thoughtful advice :D

Unknown said...

I did the same bloody thing! Gave it a shake and out it came!

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

Anonymous said...

I used a sticky note to stick on and pull out the disk. It worked like a prayer.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Thank you Thank you!
I did EXACTLY what you did, thought I would "help" the minidisc along by pushing it in further with a big disc....lol - and I work for an IT company!!!!!
Oh dear, God bless good old gravity eh?!
Thanks again!
xxRxx

Anonymous said...

That just happened to me today.

Anonymous said...

First time for me -- I searched BEFORE I stuck the disk in. Thank you all for saving me from doing my usual idiotic push first and ask questions later. So question remains -- how do you play Mini's on the Mac? Thanks, Jay

SteveCook said...

thanks so much! why can't companies provide installation software on proper cds?

Anonymous said...

Apparently we're all idiots. I did it too- pushed it farther with a big CD, got that one stuck too!! eventually was able to eject the big one but the ol' shake 'n gravity drop finally worked for the little guy. whew. lesson? Do not put a mini-cd into a mac slot! and now we know.

Unknown said...

I too did the same and it worked. We all laughed out loud. Praise the lord...

Anonymous said...

Thanks y'all for the posts. How amazingly predictable some human behavior is. I too noticed the disk did not go all the way in and assumed if it was in properly I would get a mount icon so gave it the extra shove! The decisive shake seems to have done the trick. I tried multiple times with the restart track pad bar/eject key method and the angle/shake, no luck. I eventually slid a Skiddles the Clown card in - it is a thin shiny card -and jiggled the card around while doing the restart with the above shake. It came to the edge but retreated when I tried to grab it with really thin needle nose pliers. So I bounced the MacBook (Intel Core Duo) decisively on my knee and the mp3 player 3 inch installation disc fell on the floor. Big sigh of relief. And I have AppleCare! Moral of the story, unless the disk tray pops out to accept your 3" disk its not an option to use mini disks. Lyn

what can i say. we had the same problem, googled and followed yr example. however, our's is not the mac book, but the big screen i-mac. thanks a million.

Anonymous said...

you know what. IT REALLY WORKS. lol
i tried what you did and shook me laptop and let gravity do the job.

thanks. =D

Anonymous said...

Thank you! Aved the daya and the need. To got to the mac store... apple shoud solve this problem tho... really stupid that u can't play the mini cd on macbook... and I thought apple had it all...lol

Anonymous said...

Gosh! I shd have read this post 1st before going thru all the trouble in unscrewing those darn 21 lil screws!

Anonymous said...

I wish I had read your message before I took my Macbook to the Apple store where it was purchased. I was told that the mini disk could do $1000 worth of damage. When I finally picked it up a week later, I was told how it took hours to disassemble the computer to retrieve the disk and how lucky I am to only be charged $140 even though it was still under warranty when all it needed was a shake.

Anonymous said...

Omgosh, I am so glad I read this entry before taking my macbook apart. A thousand thanks to your random entry!

Gideon said...

Praise the lord it worked for me too.

Thanks. I tried a business card before seeing your article and business cards don't work.

Unknown said...

I did the exact same thing. No lie. mini cd, pushed it in farther with another cd, panicked, then shook it. worked like a charm.

Anonymous said...

Just also wanted to say thanks. I came down to find my wife surrounded by all kids after she had inserted a mini CD into my drive and was asking why it didn't work. A quick shake (which all of your messsages gave me the courage to do) probably saved our marriage.

Anonymous said...

youre a genius.....i was yelling at my husband but i shook it and it worked

Anonymous said...

Haha, you're the shakin online hero - your little trick worked lick a charm and saved approximately 50$ at the Mac store :-D

I almost just made this mistake and thought I would google it first. I am so glad that I did!

Unknown said...

Thanks for the great 'technical' advice! I did the same thing - put a small disk in my MacBook Pro, stupidly thinking the modern technology would be able to handle any size disk. Obviously it got stuck and I tried pushing it in with another cd ad various other things, but to no avail. Then I Googled it and found your post, shook and shook my Mac and eventually it slid out enough for me to pull it out with my nails. Phew! Thx.

Anonymous said...

I love the internet! Thank you for the advice. Did the same thing with a minidisc, that godt stuck in my computer. I couldn't handle to hear my computer technician husband tell me what a stupid thing I had done. Thanks for helping me solve the problem by myself :-)

Anonymous said...

I'm glad so many other chumps must do this on a daily basis.

How much can i shake my Mac without damaging it though?

B. said...

I just did this. thought nothing of it, sticking a mini cd into my husband's macbook. i did it, then immediately felt like an idiot. Good to know I'm not the only dummy here! I was flipping out until I came across this post- IT WORKED! Shake, shake, shake - and out came the cd.

thanksssssssss x1000000000000

Anonymous said...

Thanks a TON, Graham!

I bought my Macbook Pro day before only and inserted the mini disk in the drive thinking it will suck it in.

Thank you so much!

Anonymous said...

If you dont get it out, just use a ID card to wiggle around until the cd gets kinda loose then shake the macbook and it will come out..

noryie said...

bless you!!!!!!!!!!! it worked, after i tried taking it out with a paper clip. i love the internet!

Anonymous said...

It's been 3 years since you posted this...but it helped me today THANKS!!!!

Anonymous said...

Definitely thought: "Oh just push it in farther with a CD and then press the eject button." Epic fail.
Then I read and tried the advice given on your page.
Epic success.
Followed with a sudden laughter...
All the way from Saudi Arabia, thanks.

fricadel said...

Thanks to all of you - I tried the pushing in of the big CD and jammed it over the little guy - pushed eject and the big CD just came out and then out came the small disc - main lesson is that there are no stupid actions because look at all the help that has come from this blog! If we didn;t do stupid things sometimes we wouldn't learn ways of fixing them up. Cheers everyone!

I managed to get the mini dvd
